The Law of Compensation By: Brian Tracy

You Get What You Give

Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his essay, “Compensation,” wrote that each person is compensated in like manner for that which he or she has contributed. The Law of Compensation is another restatement of the Law of Sowing and Reaping. It says that you will always be compensated for your efforts and for your contribution, whatever it is, however much or however little.

Increase Your Value

This Law of Compensation also says that you can never be compensated in the long term for more than you put in. The income you earn today is your compensation for what you have done in the past. If you want to increase your compensation, you must increase the value of your contribution.

Fill Your Mind With Success

Your mental attitude, your feelings of happiness and satisfaction, are also the result of the things that you have put into your own mind. If you fill your own mind with thoughts, visions and ideas of success, happiness and optimism, you will be compensated by those positive experiences in your daily activities.

Do More Than You’re Paid For

Another corollary of the Law of Sowing and Reaping is what is sometimes called the, “Law of Overcompensation.” This law says that great success comes from those who always make it a habit to put in more than they take out. They do more than they are paid for. They are always looking for opportunities to exceed expectations. And because they are always overcompensating, they are always being over rewarded with the esteem of their employers and customers and with the financial rewards that go along with their personal success.

Provide the Causes, Enjoy The Effects

One of your main responsibilities in life is to align yourself and your activities with Law of Cause and Effect (and its corollaries), accepting that it is an inexorable law that always works, whether anyone is looking or not. Your job is to institute the causes that are consistent with the effects that you want to enjoy in your life. When you do, you will realize and enjoy the rewards you desire.

Action Exercises

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.

First, remind yourself regularly that your rewards will always be in direct proportion to your service to others. How could you increase the value of your services to your customers today?

Second, look for ways to go the extra mile, to use the Law of Overcompensation in everything you do. This is the great secret of success.

Quote Meal

Here is a profound inspirational and motivational quote on success motivation and personal development for your empowerment as you navigate through the week.

“Deep in the recesses of every human soul, a mighty power is always at work. It serves as a constant reminder to press onward, achieve more, be more, give more. Until we take the first step toward re- arranging our lifestyle in a more positive way, this mighty power will cause us to be- come as restless as a pregnant woman, held hostage by the piercing pain of intense labour. Giving birth to positive change will not come without shedding old habits, some old friends, old fears, and old ways of thinking.  It will not come without tossing and turning, sometimes even crying a river of tears, or perhaps lying awake in the still of the night, staring at the ceiling, praying for answers. Answers will come and positive changes will too. Though often wrapped in struggles and disappointments, torment and rejection, heartaches and pain, sickness and suffering, weeping and wailing…still, they come.” Jacqueline Benjamin Thomas

R.E.A.L Success Motivation

Being R.E.A.L is a rarity today. This coined acronym, R.E.A.L stands for Relationships, Equipping, Attitude and Leadership. You could do with all of these components to achieve success in any endeavor. By now I’m persuaded that you understand that you cannot achieve success just by yourself. Your success either personal or professional requires the following components:

Relationships: Theodore Roosevelt said, “The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.” One of the single skills considered necessary for success is the ability to get along with other people. It embodies and influences every aspect of a person’s life. Your relationships make you or they break you.

Equipping: One of the most significant lessons to be learnt in life is that your association will determine the level of your success. If your dreams are great, you will achieve them only with the help of people in the past or present.

Attitude: People’s attitudes determine how they approach life from day to day. Your attitude, more than your aptitude, will determine your altitude. Here is a quote that puts attitude in proper perspective, “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.” Charles R. Swindoll

Leadership: Stephen R. Covey remarked, “Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.” Everything rises and falls on leadership. If you desire to take the limitation of your personal and professional effectiveness, the only way to do it is to hone and increase your leadership skills.

Never Quit Attitude

“If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.”
Bill Clinton

Developing a Never Quit Attitude (NQA) is a priceless success power point and it is critical to any endeavor. The unfortunate thing is that most of us have had to learn the hard way one of the most important success power points of all times. It is very important to understand that in any enterprise one must develop a Never Quit Attitude because there will be times in your pursuit that things will not necessarily work your way or meet your expectations. There will be temporary detours in your personal and professionally advancement plus the uncertainty that abounds in our world. Thus, there is a need to develop a Never Quit Attitude so as to find answers and solutions to prevailing circumstance rather than quitting anytime and every time you are confronted with difficult challenges.

My friends, a Never Quit Attitude is not just blind optimism but it is having a sense of confidence that every thing will work out for your good. It is the willingness to seek answers and solutions in moments of despair and disappointments. It is the courage to try one more time when the naysayer says it is impossible. Success is not about never failing but it’s about never quitting. Stay consistent to your goals and objectives no matter how slow things may appear. This is one of the keys to success that great achievers have used to achieve extraordinary results in their field of interest.

It is important to develop a Never Quit Attitude (NQA) as you aspire to fulfill your dreams and goals. Before considering moving from one project to another because of temporary detours, this of course will only create a series of unfulfilled projects that can have a negative effect on you in the final analysis. Napoleon Hill remarked, “Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.” That is well articulated, the rewards of your efforts is not fully released and enjoyed when you quit, examine what works and what does not work and move on.

Winners never quit and Quitters never win. I hope this post will help and inspire you to never give up on your dreams and aspirations

7 Habits of Highly Motivated People

As a pastor, motivational speaker and success facilitator, the question frequently asked by my congregants and at my success empowerment seminars is why are some people highly motivated and others are not? Here are my top seven habits of highly motivated people. To stay motivated and on top of your game, requires, developing certain positive habits, state of mind and discipline. These habits are not reserved for any special group of individuals but for anyone that would take the time to develop these habits that can keep them motivated as they pursue their objectives.

What is a habit? A habit can be defined as an automatic or conditioned response to stimuli. A habit, weather good or bad is something you do naturally and easily without thought or effort. On the other hand, motivation is often referred to as the process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour toward a goal. A habit therefore, can help direct and maintain behaviour toward a goal or objective. It can also determine almost everything you achieve or fail to achieve.

Here are some of the habits of highly motivated people that they often display in their personal and professional lives.

1.    Take it a day at a time: Highly motivated people have mastered the habit of taking it a day at a time. This habit is so critical to any success motivation. Highly motivated people tend to exhibit the habit of taking it a day at a time whenever they are engaged in any activity. In other words, they are not running ahead of themselves to do things that are not immediate at the expense of what is. Every step, decision or act is always with the mindset and habit of ‘take it a day at a time.’ Highly motivated people tend to be highly motivated because they are not jumping all around, moving ahead of themselves, resources or skills and engage in activities that are not relevant for the moment. But they are poised and taking it a day at a time.

2.    Everything counts: Highly motivated people never take things or people for granted. They are very conscious of the fact that everything counts, no matter the situation. They understand that there is seldom or ever any hopeless situation. This habit keeps them motivated to do what they need to do to achieve what they need to achieve and move in the direction of their anticipated expectations.

3.    Goal oriented: Highly motivated people have developed a habit of setting goals in all aspects of their lives. They know exactly what they want but also understand that in order to achieve any meaningful results you need to have goals and plans to achieving what you want. Highly motivated people spend their waking hours relentlessly searching for meaning to their lives motivated by the desire to see the accomplishment of their goals. Simply put goal setting is one the habits that contribute to why most people are highly motivated.

4.    Challenge as opportunities: The highly motivated people understand that nothing worthwhile comes easily. These individuals see opportunities in every challenge that they are confronted with. Instead of allowing those challenges to impede their progress they see it as opportunity to become better, develop or acquire new skills to address the challenges. This habit keeps them motivated to pursue their intents without wavering.

5.    Life long learning: The highly motivated people have a habit of a life long learning process. They are always willing to learn new things, new ideas and new ways of doing things so as to accommodate challenges, new projects or endeavours. They know that every investment in their personal development pays dividends that outweigh the initial investments monetarily or otherwise. Learning new ideas just about anything they desire and grow thereby keeps them motivated.

6.    Envisioning the outcome: The habit of envisioning the outcome keeps most successful people highly motivated. These individuals know what they want, have goals and action plans in place to achieve their expectation. They then visualize the outcome and seeing the perfect outcome goes a long way to keep them highly motivated and ploughing through any temporary detour.

7.    Keeping things in proper perspective: Finally, the seventh habit of highly motivated people is keeping things in proper perspective. Unfortunately, the inability to keep things in proper perspective have robbed a lot of people untold successes. You see, the highly motivated people know how to and practice the habit of keeping things in proper perspective no matter the circumstance positive or negative. They do not exaggerate or underestimate events taking place in their personal or professional lives but have developed the habit of keeping things in their respective perspective as they pursue their objectives.

When you put a recipe together to prepare a bolognaise sauce for your spaghetti for instance, it is not one ingredient that determines the final outcome and the end of your preparation. 4 Tips on Goal Setting

“If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us.” Jim Rohn

Achieving your personal and professional goals either short or long term involves deciding what exactly you want to do with your life. This is an intricate part in formulating your goal setting strategies. Once you have finished your goal setting exercise you will have to break them into smaller and manageable tasks to be completed as you set out to achieve your objectives. Embark upon your goals once they are in place. Do not procrastinate but rather take action immediately.

Having daily and weekly sets of goals are the best ways to have a manageable list. As a result you will always be in the position of consistently moving towards your ultimate purpose. As everyday will provide you with opportunity, it is of great importance that you also learn to create opportunities that will help facilitate the fulfillment of your goal. This will create a feeling of accomplishment on your part thus motivating you to set more goals.

Here are some indicators that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude: Attitude plays an important role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if there is any part of you or your mind that is holding you back toward the completion of your goals. Do you exhibit actions that are incongruent with your goals or that impair your plans all together? It is imperative to take immediate action to address the situation before it completely sabotages your efforts. Solutions may include developing a positive mental attitude by reading and listening to motivating and uplifting materials, enlisting the help of a coach that can hold you accountable for your actions.

Education: Most of the times we are not adequately equipped to accomplish some of our goals. For instance, starting a work from home business will need some kind of skills and information that one may not necessarily possess right now, however these skills can be acquired through formal or self education. Consequently, we must continually acquire information and expertise through out our lives so as to address new objectives, challenges or demands placed upon us. Jim Rohn remarked, “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” Education is a key in achieving your goals. If your goals require that you have a certain kind of prerequisite or specialization or demand the acquisition of certain skills, make it your priority in getting the appropriate formal or self education so as to advance your goals.

Self-Discipline: Self-discipline is often defined as the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state. Jim Rohn said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” It is improbable that you will ever achieve anything worthwhile without self-discipline. It is not enough to have goals but it’s equally important to stay discipline by consistently taking action in spite of the challenges toward bringing those goals to fruition. Brian Tracy articulated in a profound way by saying, “Your ability to develop the habit of self-discipline will contribute more to your success than any other quality of character.”

Financial Situation: Personal financial situation always play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or strategies by which you will be able to reach your earning potential. It’s of importance that in setting your goals you should also take into consideration your financial capabilities. For instance if your goal is to attend four major ‘Success Empowerment Seminars’ in the next calendar year that will provide you with information and skills that will enhance your intellectual capacity as well as move you in the direction of your anticipated goals thus your financial ramification must be taken into consideration.

To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily. Then create a to-do list for the day. Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies.
